Hey Reader,
Today's my 38th birthday! 🎂
And instead of you sending ME presents (though I wouldn't turn down a seltzer if offered), I want to give YOU something that'll make your content creation life easier.
I'm calling it the MP3 Insights Starter Kit.
If you've been following along with my recent newsletter series, you know I've been obsessed with the MP3 Framework:
- Market the Problem
- Market the Process
- Market the Proof
But knowing the framework is just step one. The magic happens when you start actively capturing insights that fit into these categories.
As I've said before, the best content doesn't come from forcing yourself to "think of ideas." It comes from paying attention to the signals already around you—and capturing them before they go POOF.
🎁 Your birthday gift: 21 questions to unlock your best insights
I've pulled 21 of my favorite insight-generating questions from my full MP3 Content Engine system—7 for each category.
(There are over 100 of these in the full MP3 engine.)
These aren't just random questions. These are the specific prompts I use with my highest-paying clients to help them extract their most valuable ideas.
🔴 Market the Problem
- What keeps your ideal clients up at night? What specific worries do they have at 2am?
- What are they trying to accomplish but keep failing at, despite their best efforts?
- What do they think the problem is versus what the actual root cause is?
- What "accepted wisdom" in your industry is actually hurting people?
- What have they already tried that didn't work, and why didn't it work?
- What invisible struggles are your clients facing that they haven't named yet?
- What specific pain are they feeling right before they decide to work with someone like you?
🟡 Market the Process
- What's a common approach in your industry that you've completely reimagined or flipped on its head?
- What's something you do differently than most people in your industry, and why?
- What's a framework or system you've developed that makes your work more effective?
- What was your biggest "aha!" moment that changed how you approach your work?
- What experiment did you run that completely changed your perspective?
- What's a mistake you made that taught you something crucial about your process?
- What's a counterintuitive approach you take that gets better results?
🟢 Market the Proof
- What's a specific transformation you helped create? What were the before and after metrics?
- What surprising result have you or your clients achieved that even you didn't expect?
- What's an example of something working exactly as you predicted when others were skeptical?
- What's a small win your clients experienced that was actually more important than the "big" results?
- What feedback have you received that validated your unique approach?
- What's the most dramatic turnaround you've helped create?
- How has your own implementation of your methodology evolved over time?
How to use these questions
- Set aside 30 minutes this week with a blank document
- Choose just ONE category to focus on (Problem, Process, or Proof)
- Answer all 7 questions for that category
- Look for patterns or themes in your answers
- Choose the most compelling insight to expand into your next piece of content
That's it! You'll have unlocked at least one killer content idea (probably more) that's rooted in your real expertise and speaks directly to what your audience needs.
🪄A real insight to content journey in action
Here's a real insight I captured last year and how I transformed it into newsletter content (because seeing this powerful system in action is where the magic happens).
The insight I captured:
Last year, I noticed something interesting during my Content Sparring sessions. When clients showed me their drafts, most of them would say something like:
"I'm worried if I cut this part out, I'll lose the authenticity of my writing."
Or:
"If I edit this too much, it won't sound like me anymore."
I started tracking this pattern and realized there was a fundamental misunderstanding about what "authentic writing" actually means. People were equating their first drafts (often rambling and unstructured) with "authenticity" and viewing editing as somehow making their writing less "them."
How I transformed this insight pattern into content:
I turned this insight into a newsletter called "Authentic writing is a myth" where I broke down this misconception:
I explained that:
- The idea that cutting content somehow cuts your personality is a widespread fear
- What readers actually connect with isn't your unfiltered thoughts, but your perspective and personality
- Personality in writing isn't just word choice—it's how you involve the reader in your writing through "the pause effect"
- Your writing instincts aren't always right (just like comedians don't use their first draft jokes)
Here's a small excerpt from that newsletter:
"My personality when I speak includes tons of verbs and adjectives like 'super' and 'really' and 'omg' and 'ugh, I dunno' and 'dude.'
If I ever keep those in the final cut, it's an intentional choice. I want you to see some of my personality come through, but I don't want all the fluff. It's a balance.
But, my friends, personality does not only = word choice.
Personality is how you involve the reader in your writing.
It's the moments you pause to allow room for unspoken conversation.
It's the invisible back-and-forth that breaks the monologue and invites the reader into your world."
The result? One of my most commented-on newsletters. People responded with relief because they'd been struggling with this exact fear.
By naming this silent struggle (a key problem-marketing tactic!), I helped readers break through a mindset block that was holding them back.
This is exactly what happens when you capture real insights from your audience instead of just trying to think up random content ideas.
